I've just copied a couple of videos across (I'm using the Yosemite beta and iOS 8 on an iPhone 6 Plus). The MP4 file goes into the Photos app, but the AVI files seemingly completed the transfer but then can't be found. Are they still on the phone? If so, where are they and how would I access them? I've looked in the Videos app and I've also got an app called PlayerXtreme that is supposed to play the file type, but it's not in either app.

I have the same query...

Transferred an AVI file via AirDrop onto my iPhone, can't find it anywhere on the device, and there appears to be no way to remove it....just wondering if you found a solution that doesn't require a Full Restore, or to Erase all Settings and Content???

I suppose the same issue could occur with any file type not officially supported on IOS 8???

Isn't that a jailbreak app? The ones in the App Store don't seem to be true file explorers so it doesn't really solve the problem.

Didn't it prompt you which app you wanted to open the file in once the transfer was completed? If not, maybe the avi didn't actually transfer?
