where do opened apps go?

So I downloaded smcFanControl, found it in Downloads and opened it but now what?
Can't find it. On my XP PC new stuff saved to my desktop so it was dead easy to find but this...
Help !

There should be a new icon in the menu bar (the strip along the top of the screen), because smcFanControl runs in the menu bar. I'd also recommend that you move the app from your Downloads folder to your Applications folder (i.e. "installing" the app).
