Where does iMovie import to?

I'm wondering where iMovie imports all footage to?
As I have only really used my macbook to capture film from my camcorder, and this has taken up a lot of my hard-drive, and I now want to delete it.

I have deleted the iMovie movie files, but the hard-drive is still of a low volume, so im guessing that the movie captures are still somewhere lurking around on my macbook.

Any help pleasee?

iMovie projects are packages & the footage/media is saved inside. Control- or right-click on the project icon & choose show package contents from the contextual menu. Another window will open, then click on Contents then Media & there is your footage.
