Where does the heat come from?

This may be a stupid question, but I was just wondering where the fans are on the notebook. I have a new MBA and notice that only the bottom of the notebook seems to get warm. Where does the heat exit to?

On my old HP notebook that thing got really hot, and you could visibly see where the heat exits to.

Dumb question I know, but i'm just curious thanks!

The slits on the bottom of the notebook are the heat vents.

Also, since the case is aluminum, it helps dissipate heat as well.
