I live in Colombia and want to buy the iPhone 3GS for development purposes, so I prefer to pay for the full iPhone price and get it unlocked (I don't need stinky montly plans to develop!).

There have been previous threads listing at least two retailers in Italy that sell unlocked iPhones. The cost will be €619/€719 for the 16/32 GB models. I don't know if they will ship outside of the EU (or even outside of Italy), though.

Ok, but the problem is the import....

I just think will be more easy on the US where I can import it easily with a carrier.

id go check ebay...

i have a 16gb White 3g unlocked and jailbroken up for sail on there with no reserve. just put it up today...and its only 2 months old, so it still looks new.

there are plenty listed on there...take your pick!

You guys probably got many GSM providers.
Here we got only 2. So even if it was unlocked it could only work on Tmobile thru Edge since their 3G is incompatible with standard 3G frequencys used thruout the world.
So it wouldnt make much of a difference IMO.
Yes, the plans are cheaper but I'd rather not deal with slow 2G speeds.

yep they are http://www.cnet.com.au/apple-to-sell-unlocked-iphone-3gs-339297111.htm. Can't believe it's not illegal what they are doing in America, can't lock a phone to one carrier here, one carrier means everyone is getting ripped off IMO :D

wow that surprises me, thought you would have a raft for 3G providers available. We have off the top of my head 4 or 5 different carriers to choose from with 3G coverage. Only 3 (optus, telstra, vodafone) are available to choose from in the apple store when purchasing. But if you want to use "3" (another 3g carrier) you can get it unlocked and go for it. Guess we are spoilt for choice making a competitive market.

Yes, the more choices the better it is for the consumer.
I wish I could say its the same here.
2 choices for GSM and 2 choices for CDMA its pretty much it.
Can you say monopoly?
