I just purchased a new M1 Mac mini with a 256gb hard drive. I just got it going and for some reason I don't have a lot of disk space left on that drive. I added an external dock with a 2TB hard drive to store everything except for necessary OS files. I basically want to keep the internal 256gb drive for the operating system and that's it.

I do have 2TB of iCloud storage which is I believe shared between my wife and I. I do have iCloud turned on and it allows my computer to shared across all of my Apple devices.

1) How do I find out what is taking up all of that space and move it to the 2tb external drive?

2) How do I set up this operating system drive so that whenever most files get stored on the 2tb drive?

Thank you for that. What's odd is that MacOS used to have a way to show what was on the hard drive based upon sections such as Mail, Photos, Messages, Documents, Applications, etc but for some reason I cannot find it on MacOS Ventura.
