I always thought that "Electronic Shipping Info Received" meant that the package hadn't been picked up yet, but how could it be that this is displayed AFTER it was processed by a sort facility?

Does this make sense to anyone?

USPS does this all the time, they are slow to update. Your package is on its way, they will probably update the info tonight (they always update at night, unless delivered).

you should call UPS.
