The SDK is not a physical retail product which can be 'released for sale'. It merely consists of software which will (albeit restrictively) open up the iPhone (and iPod touch) to 3rd party development. For the minute, if your not a member of Apple's Developer Center (ADC), you shouldn't be worrying about the SDK's release date, as for the 'casual' user, it's not going to do all that much. Possibly, we may, see a few Apple certified apps to celebrate it's release, but with the recent Apple, these are going to cost anyway, at least for iPod touch users.

As for it's release, I think an announcement on Apple's Hot News should do the trick.

Complete and utter speculation. I guess that's par for the course on a rumor site though.

Yes, it's speculation.

But:

1. It is going to be software based
2. It may be restrictive (not as open as people are wanting it to be)
3. It is either going to be announced on Apple Hot News, and released to Developers only though ADC, or Apple will release the SDK publicly through the rumored mid-march event.

Either way, it's coming, and it is software based.

So not entirely speculative.

Well, considering no one ever said it would released on the 26th, who knows. It was always "Late February" which gives Apple 3 more days to make their projected time frame.

They are going to have to say something about it ASAP (IMO), cuz Steve announced it'll be avail. in February. Course if they don't comment on it (delayed, etc), I supposed that creates more media around it. IDK.

I'm anxious for it.

Personally, I don't see the SDK coming out alone, in the news section. I think Apple will celebrate it event style. 2 to 3 weeks, as reported by Business Week. New firmware, SDK, and the first batch of iPhone games through iTunes or the iTunes store on the iPhone.

My prediction is that we will see it on Thursday. Just a feeling I have, I hope I'm right. :)

Unless it's released later today or tomorrow, then I won't mind being wrong. :p

Edit: I may have to stand corrected! :D 1.1.4 is now out!
