I'm running OS Mavericks on a new iMac. It always irks me when I see an unwanted icon at the very top of the Desktop. Adobe programs are real frisky about popping their "Updater" icon up there. And then users like me go crazy trying to eliminate the darn things.

So where is the "kill switch" for those icons?

For third party apps you want on, go into app prefs and turn off.

For third part apps you want off, go into system prefs > user, startup and take it off the line up.

For apple icons, command drag them off.
