I very recently got a new Mac Studio and Sequoia to me is way different than what I was used to with High Sierra and earlier OSX's.

One thing driving me insane is where the lock/unlock icon is, in particular, Privacy&Security. Search says it on the right side very bottom.... no it isn't. There's just a filevault thing, a lockdown mode and an advanced button (not in there either).

This kind of thing happens every once in a while. You look up with google how to configure something in your browser or some application, and the item it says to accomplish what you want to do doesn't even exist. Infuriating.

Back to story.... found something that there's a glitch in your system, do this (Safe Mode). Except when I did it, it didn't give me the option to start in safe mode. Now looking for how to fix THAT thing. found a thread on apple discussions and what the poster suggested worked. But that didn't bring lock icon back.

Another 'glitch'... my copy in progress window disappeared. Luckily found someone on apple discussion that said to click on the little progress circle in the sidebar of the drive and it re-appeared. I've never encountered a disappearing copy window ever since my first mac in '97.

Is it possible I'd need to do a system recovery on a brand new machine? Everything else seems to work (Except Native Instruments installation errors)

Aside from that, bought a new Logitech trackball mouse. About 5-6 times during installing its control panel, it required mr to go into various preferences and make sure I turned that and that on. Never ever had to do that kind of stuff before.

rant/ lol

Are you referring to “Require an administrator password to access system-wide settings”?

Thanks
I guess if that has now taken the place of the padlock icon I've always been used to, then you've solved it for me.

That is not turned on in my settings as I've never touched it since getting the new computer. So the default must be that admin automatically is allowed to change things. Whereas, with the earlier OSX's I'm used to, normally that lock icon would be in the locked position. Then, if I wanted to change something i'd have to unlock it and either leave it that way or lock again
