I've seen this start to happen since the September 2010 event. Apple added many, many new features to the iPod touch, while crippling the Nano, criticizing the Shuffle, and denying the Classic. This is to get everyone to use the Touch. iOS 5 and the "Lions" make this more obvious. Apple is adding Mac features to iOS, iOS features to Mac, and iPhone features to the iPod touch. Eventually, iOS and Mac OSX will merge, and Macs will run on iOS (modified for a desktop, of course). The iPod will be discontinued, leaving the iPhone to previous iPod touch users. Sooner or later (probably "much later"), the Mac will be discontinued, replaced by the iPad.
