Okay, as well as my default keychain I had made one called "Data" to store private information etc.

Now I just did a clean install and i can't find my 'data" keychain in my back-ups!

I have a time machine backup as well as having dumped the home folder onto a usb drive. I didn't do a full re-install from time machine as I only wanted certain files, but when I search through the library files on the time machine (and the usb drive) all i find are the login keychain....

any ideas where my data keychain is hiding ???? :(

Have you checked both keychain locations?

/Library/Keychains
/Users/Username/Library/Keychains

yep check both:

/Library/Keychains
has filevaultmaster & system keychains

/Users/Username/Library/Keychains
has a login keychain

can't believe I've lost all my bank etc details...

And a Spotlight search for Data.keychain on your USB drive doesn't reveal it anywhere?

If not, it's puzzling why it wouldn't be on your USB or TM drive. If you were using it, then it must have been there, so it should also be on the backup.

yep tried searching etc - no joy...
I was accessing it just a coupe of days ago so I know it was there....

my user profile (not the admin one) had filevault switched on, but I've opened up the sparse file that TC backs up but its not in there

saved by mobileme ! :)

even though i had deliberately nuked my mobileme account prior to the re-install, turned out my keychain was still on there - phew....
