Hi,
My hard drive went out in my imac G5. The guy at the Apple store showed me how easy it was to put a new one in to save me the huge labor bill from Apple but didn't tell me where to get a new one. He said I need a Serial ATA drive and it didn't matter what size. Can someone tell me what and where to get this? I had a 160GB in my imac.
Thanks.

Try looking at newegg.com or owc.com.

They both have great prices and service.

I replaced the hard drive in my G5 iMac about 4 months ago with one from newegg, very simple process. As you have said, just make sure you get a 3.5" SATA drive.

I bought a 400gig one for about 80 shipped.

I picked up a 750GB Seagate drive at geeks.com for $147.50 shipped. Tigerdirect.com is also good -- I think they still have 500GB Seagates for $109.

Recommend Newegg as well - go for a drive with decent cache for access speed. if going for a 500 look for 32mb cache vs 16 or 8. You may also consider the new 640GB drives that have 320 per platter they are supposed to be faster and reliable.
