This is also relevant to my internets, i was quoted over £100 in an Apple Store for their Airport card, and to be honest, i really don't feel like lugging it into town for the 'pleasure' of a retail employee installing it for me.

I too have a Gen. 1 Mac Pro, and have been thinking, failing obtaining a (Cheaper) internal card, what the best Mac compatible USB WiFi dongle is?
 
im pretty sure i saw airport cards at bestbuy in the box, for like 100, may not be any cheaper, or might be cause of installation.........

You can buy from directly from the AppleStore, thought they don't consider it a "user installable item" - at least my branch didn't want to supply me the part without first installing it into a MacPro - (free installation mind)

God only knows why...
