My iPhone 3G battery now only lasts a day in standby so I need to replace the battery. Can anyone recommend the best place in the UK to buy a genuine replacement battery at a reasonable price?

Take it to apple store. I believe they have a policy, that if the battery lasts less than half of what it did when you got it, they replace it I'm pretty sure, but since it's a 3G, they may not. If they do, plan on getting a 3GS, or 4 as a replacement phone.

Only if it's in warranty.. which a 3g is pretty unlikely to be by now.

They'll charge, and probably a disproportionate amount to how much a 3g costs now.

This is only covered within the first year, i have had the phone from the day that the 3g was available so it is pretty old now.

I see that there are loads of cheap 3g batteries on eBay UK, BUT, how can i tell if they are genuine apple batteries or cheap rubbish???

Apple charge £55. Depending on stock it will be replaced with a refurb 3G or 3GS.
