I own a 2012 rMBP 15 on OS X 10.9.5 with 256GB flash storage and just ordered a 512GB flash storage module that I plan to put in to replace the original 256GB with.

I would like to keep my OS X version at 10.9.x and not update it to Yosemite yet due to compatibility issue with some software I use. I have the data backed up through CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner) and I'm planning to install a clean copy of OS X on the new flash module and migrate data from the CCC backup once OS install is done.

Is there a safe place to download a Mavericks OS X dmg file from somewhere on the Internet?

did you purchase mavericks?
- yes - you can download it from the mac app store , it should be in purchases. if your computer won't let you download it, because it is not compatible, you can borrow someone else's computer and sign onto the mac app store
once it downloads you just drag "install os x . app" or whatever from applications to a usb key for safe keeping. or to make a install usb key

did your computer come with mavericks?
- yes, you just hold down "option command R" during boot and it will download mavericks over wifi

- no , it will install whatever os x version came with the computer and you will have to upgrade it to mavericks some how

do you have a time machine ???

if you run time machine backups on Yosemite it might not allow you to restore to mavericks

Thanks for your reply.

No, I did not purchase Mavericks but got it installed as a free upgrade (did not come with Mavericks) so I was wondering if it's available somewhere I can download it so I can keep the OS version.

I did not purchase Mavericks, but I somehow found a downloadable OS X Mavericks installer file from under Purchase in App Store. Looks like I just need put the installer in a SD card or USB and install it on the new flash module.

If you got an upgrade from the App Store for it, Mavericks should appear in the Purchased section of the App Store for you.

Found I can still download OS X Mavericks from App Store under Purchases. I did not buy it but it shows up on the list of apps purchased and downloadable anyway.

Mavericks is free, so nobody actually bought it. Redeeming a free app counts as a purchase in the App Store environment.

Getting any app, paid or not, is considered purchasing.
