Where to find free fonts for mac os x

When I load the fonts I've found on the internet in font book, they don't show in my applications even though I have validated them. Any advice?

Try dafont.com, its always worked fine for me.

You can also try 1001fonts.com and 1001freefonts.com, they're pretty good usually.

When i load new fonts from these sources, they don't show up in my applications like microsoft word, etc. I have validated them and they were fine. Does this happen to you?

I don't use word, but they work fine in Open Office and Photoshop. You might want to restart after you've added the fonts to Fontbook, then open Word again, see it that helps?
