For those that are pre-ordering tonight for delivery next Friday, where would you assume our phones are now? Is it possible they are atill being made? Sitting someplace in China? Could they already be here in the US sitting in a warehouse?

Not much longer to wait!

Still in China. Thursday they'll be in Alaska, headed south for delivery in the CONUS.

Probably in the back of a truck somewhere in a crate being sat on by a small family near the border

Our phones in general or your phone? Yours I know for a fact OP, is being used as a door stop in a Foxconn factory. On Monday it'll be put in its packaging and the scuffs blamed on fair wear and tear.

Isn't it amazing to think through the logistics involved in getting millions of iPhones with new OS installed and shipped out in a week or so? I'd like to see an Ultimate Factories or something on this.

It depends on your locale. All of my Apple preorders haven't left China until 2 days before delivery in San Francisco, and all have been fedex. Sometimes they go by way of the eastern FedEx hub, sometimes direct into Oakland.

If you are further from a FedEx distribution center/major flight center, they may stage them somewhere closer to you.

This is how Tim ensured his position at Apple--by managing the supply chain so efficiently.
