Hi ..
I've been a iMac, MB, MBP, MBAir iPhone owner... etc etc and purchased several as gifts but I know that I don't use ANY well enough to get the full benefits of these Apple products. But I live in my naivete and just keep going.
I was told by one of the apple folks at the store that I don't need to purchase a mac with the hard drive I had previously purchased because I wasn't using ANYWHERE near enough of it. The computer was being replaced with so much empty space. So I bought the most recent one - 3 years or so ago - with 250GB, but now I've been taking advantage of things I never used to .. like letting my messages go to all my devices (2 iphones, 1 MBP)
My MBP said it was out of space so I bought a samsungT7 SSD & copied everything I could onto it. The needle barely moved on my space. I deleted mailboxes and every moving meme, emoji, video from my messages .. that helped. Then I backed up to the cloud (which I thought I HAD been doing) Anyway found some space enough that it automatically started to DL Big Sur (I must've tried to do it at some point and couldn't complete it due to lack of space maybe) BUT that didn't take much at all. It came out just fine, I think, except it tried to install twice so I think I deleted one .. hopefully.
HOWEVER ... now on my desktop, my "file folders" have almost nothing in them AND there is a cloud with an arrow near most of them. Can anyone please help me with any of these questions?
What is that telling me?
Where'd everything go, there are precious few items IN those folders ...?
If I want to open a document or photo will it re-download because I'm working on it, and then take back the space -- or does it upload back into the cloud?
PLEASE forgive my ignorance... I bought several (10) of those Apple One on One sessions but the people who taught each class just wanted to talk about what they found necessary and as you can see MY questions aren't really of much interest, value or all that common perhaps... except to me :-(
Thank you sincerely for any help!
