Am I the only thing who thinks that there's a missing component for Live Activities on the Apple Watch? There should be some sort of automation that switches to a Live Activity app and/or complications when a LA is running on the iPhone.

So you'd be able to track your deliveries, scores, ride shares, etc from both your phone and your wrist. Maybe next year?

I don’t think you understood the assignment.
Rest assured, I did. All I did was offer a possible alternative solution to your question. There are plenty of complications/shortcuts on the watch for this. Nice try though.

But none of them have a system-level UI like Live Activities. And, as I'm sure you know, complications can only update a certain number of times an hour—they are not truly "live."

Imagine a LIVE ACTIVITIES modular face, for example, where the center space is taken up by a live activities complication that mirrors what's on your phone. Then you could set up an automation to trigger that face on your watch whenever you start a Live Activity on your phone.

I like the idea in principle, but implementation is going to be a bear.

If this ever happens, I’d expect it to be in the form not of a watch face, but a dedicated application plus a complication. The complication won’t do all that much but give the most basic imaginable information, like “Uber in 5.” Then tap on the complication to open the app, and you’ll get everything you see in the Live Activity.

The layout on the watch will be completely different, which will likely require a re-think of basic UI elements. Like, more pie-shaped stuff and less bar-shaped. That might not sound like that big a deal … but look at what it took Apple to get to the current battery percentage indicator on the phone.

And then … how to decide when it takes over your watch? You probably want it for the Uber, but do you want it for the breaking news chiron or the sports scores? Which now points us in the direction of dedicated watch apps with their own complications, which is where we already are today …

all valid points. maybe it's just a new type of complication then that can truly update live?

either way, these are all workable problems. it seems silly to me that I can track a score or uber drive in real time on my phone but not on my watch (even the built in scores on the Siri watch face as often 20-30 minutes behind)
