In anticipation of acquiring a 2nd hand dual 8 core 2008 MP for a steal, I'd thought I'd pop along to the apple (AUS) store to see if the 285 price had dropped... alas... gone ?

Was it a ***** card or they making room for something else? *cue MP rumour and speculation /cue*

Dont really fancy haxing other cards so if they're gone is there any real alternative ?

My guess is they made 1000 or 5000 or whatever and when those are gone, they are gone.

Seems like the Aus allotment is gone.

Can you get one shipped from US?

Sadly, as PC price drops due to arrival of Fermi, the Mac ones disappear altogether.

If you are thinking of getting one of these, I'd do it sooner rather than later.

So if "We Love Macs" hoarded the 8800GTs that were $279 and now sells them for $799, wanna guess what price of Mac GTX285 will be?

Wow, I now wish I hoarded my 8800Gt when I sold it for cheap when I upgraded to the GTX285. Who knew? :D

GTX285 In Australia

Hey ManofMac-au

There is a mac evga GTX 285 card for sale on ebay Australia, chances are they may have grabbed some before they disappeared from the Apple Australia

So much for getting 30 FPS+ on those steam games eh?

It's things like this that have me continually telling people they are wasting their time trying to lobby for a better gaming experience on OSX with native software.

Only the cloud will save us, my friends.

Just ordered my EVGA GTX285 for Mac from Jigsaw in the UK. They still
have some stock as of August 4th 2010.
The price is high, but still a 3rd of the FX4800 for Mac.

Well, it's very likely that the 5770 and 5870 will ship as a upgrade kits and those would presumably work in 2008-10 MPs (possibly even the 2006-7 models, too if they leave EFI-32 in the ROMs like they did with the 4870).

An NVIDIA Quadro 4000 (Fermi-based) was announced, too. But no news yet of a consumer-level card.

Definetly not a ***** card

I bought mine in november last year upgrading from the 1900xt and this thing flies!!! awesome fps on all games ive played at full res 1900x1200 with all settings maxed. It is also extremely quiet you cant hear it, and even after 2-3 hours of gaming you still cant hear it! very good card although outdated in the pc world and at a premium price! i love it in my mac pro! Just worried because is it true that the 285 cant support the gpu offload that cs5 uses?? is it just ATI??? confused!
