Hi There, can anyone help?

When I start up my Mac (G4), I get a black screen with white text top left hand corner that says:
Darwin/BSD (computer name) (console)
Login:

OSX has disappeared. Can I get it back?

Thanks
Terry

Just guessing. Try booting from the CD and run disk utility and see if you can find anything wrong with your hardware. Repair permissions?

Edit:

You could also try single use mode COMMAND-S
verbose mode COMMAND-V
and lastly reset PRAM CMD-OPTION-P-R
