macOS Whether to need to remove old kernel during installing kernel in PackageMaker?

I use PackageMaker tool to package my app and kernel to a installer package. But during installing, it will occur such as error "kernel can't be installed properly " some times. I don't know whether it is because the older kernel didn't be removed.

Whether to need to remove old kernel during installing kernel in PackageMaker? Or PackageMaker will auto remove the old kernel?
