This is partly influenced by my desire to get one asap!!

Base model in stock but i need more than 512gb (have that in my 2013 MBP with around 130gb spare) - bearing in mind the 20% rule the 1tb model seems best.

The next one up (10 core and 16GPU) is 300 more than base (with the 1tb as an option) - so is that worth it (that pays for an apple keyboard, mouse and spare change!). Use the standard stuff but also Lightroom, may use Photoshop and will be doing video editing in iMovie (nothing to major, home video, gigs etc).

This will be only my 3rd MacBook in 14 years or so, so expecting 5-8 years of life from it!

There are so many threads on this all over the internet from the last 10 years at least, what's one more.

Every MBP in the line up is a beast, there is no going wrong.

If you're talking about getting a keyboard, I would assume this will be your desktop, at which point you could be better off getting an external HD.

The base CPU will be fine. I'd expect some small overall gain in Photoshop. As you can see from this Pugetsystems test looking at the overall difference between a 6 Core Ryzen and 8 Core Ryzen.

The GPU shouldn't make much difference. Even drastically different GPU don't make much difference in Photoshop. As PS doesn't have much GPU optimization.

I wouldn't expect a huge difference in Lightroom either.

While these tests are Intel chips on Windows. I just post them since it gives you an idea of how Photoshop and Lightroom scales up on hardware. Plus the tests are more thorough than most Mac reviews provide.

Well since the 14” can’t even fully utilize the M1 Max to its fullest spec. There is no point in going M1 Max.
