Hi guys!

I don't have the budget for a iMac pro so I've been looking at buying a 2019 iMac as ive been editing for the past two years believe it or not on a MacBook air in final cut pro. This is the my initial spec I've chosen after reading a few things online. upgrade graphics to the Radeon Pro Vega 20 with 4GB of HBM2,Ram up to 16gb and i7 processor with 256gb ssd. will the i7 be a big improvement over the i5? My other option would be to get a 27inch with the i5 and a ssd and upgrade the ram at a later date using the hatch at the back. What do people think would be the better option?

Thanks Alex

For video editing? I'd go with the 27" any day. I have the new low end model with the 256GB SSD. I'll add more RAM and external SSD drives later when the budget allows. I would say the graphics card would be a much more noticeable and worthwhile upgrade than the processor. In fact, I don't think I've ever regretted not getting the upgraded processor in any of my last few macs.

If 16GB total is all you want then I highly recommend just buying 2x4GB sticks of RAM from somebody that removed them from their 2019 iMac. Then add those to you iMac and you'll have 4x4GB of RAM.

I have seen probably 50 listings on eBay since the 2019 iMac was released. They usually sell for between $20-30 shipped for 2x4GB.
