Which 500gb external drive: Lacie or Fantom?

I've never even heard of Fantom, but I've heard a lot of good things about LaCie. So I'd say go for the LaCie.

In general, I do not recommend any ext. hard drive with USB 2.0 only. It's relatively slower compares to FireWire, but the price is fairly low.

I would get a seagate 7200.10 drive and a cooldrives.com enclosure.
