I am only charging my X thru my rMBP now. Usually only from 55 -70% to 100%. Seldom does it go below 55% as I have chargers everywhere. With a fast charger, I may let in run down more.

Was looking at the Apple 29W Fast Charger (49.00) with Apple USB-C to Lightening Connector. Not interested in non-Apple products.

I know after 80% they slow down. Not sure by how much.

Talked to a Apple Rep at Best Buy today and he ran a 29W and 12W on his iPhone 0-100%. Said the 12W was only 10 minutes slower. Suggested the way I charge my iPhone, the 29W wasn't necessary. Could save money on the 12W. Price is not the issue. But, if I gain nothing with the 29W, no need to buy it. Plus the 12W is smaller in size. And, the 12W takes a USB to Lightening. No USB-C needed. I don't know for sure, but thought he was saying the 12W doesn't slow down as much as the 29W and may be even faster for my 55 -70% to 100% usage. Not sure.

Any thoughts on the best choice for my needs?

Thanks

Yes, AirPods can charge off it, but as far as I know they aren’t extra quick. I have the 29 because it makes a HUGE difference for the 12.9 IPP. I wouldn’t have gotten it just for my phone. It’s just not that dramatic a difference. Of course, since i have it, I use it. :)

Just realized my wife has the 12W with her iPad Air. It does pretty good. I never looked at the wattage until tonite

I did see one chart today that had the 12W level off right before 100% extending it's time about another 20 minutes past the 29W time. I do see our 12W do that. Really slow from 95-100%.

Can't find the chart I saw. But, this is close. You can see where the 12W slowed down the last few % points in reaching 100%. I know just one test. But, is similar to what I saw on the chart I can't find.

I may lean toward the 29W. Price not an issue, as mentioned.

I charged my iPhone X earlier this evening with the 29w Apple charger and cord. It was at 47% when I connected. It took 35 mins to get to 100%. I was very pleased. I normally use the wireless charger overnight but wanted to give the new fast charger a test.

Thanks for that info. I tested our 12W tonight on my X and it took almost 1.5 hours from 56% to 100%. Long time from 96-100%.

Think I will put the 29W on my Christmas list. That way price really doesn't matter--lol

I then can test both and return/exchange for the 12W. Pocket about an extra 33.00 off my family--;):p:p

See this article: http://appleinsider.com/articles/17...ing-speeds-with-fast-charge-wireless-and-more

It shows the 29W charger takes 1 hour 30 minutes to fully charge an iPhone 8 Plus from 0% to 100%, while the 12W charger only takes extra 15 minutes (1 hour 45 minutes). Is that 15 minutes saving worth it for you to spend the extra money on the charger and USB-C--Lightning cable? This also assumes you usually charge your phone from below 50% (remaining battery capacity) or lower, because as you can see from the chart, the 29W only charges the fastest from 0% up to about 70%, after that it slows down to the same rate (flattening of angle of the line) as the 12W charger. So if you often charge your phone from way above 50% remaining battery capacity, you won't notice much faster speed with the 29W charger.

P.S. In my personal test, it actually takes me nearly 2 hours to full charge my iPhone 8 Plus from 0% to 100% using the 29W charger. If you ask me why did I buy this 29W charger then if I think it is not the best bang-for-your-buck fast charger? That's because in Australia here, Apple sells the 29W charger for AUD $69 and I was able to find one on a clearance table for $30, otherwise I would have just bought the 12W charger for $29.

P.P.S. Of course if you are rich and money is not an issue, you wouldn't have to ask us this question which fast charger to choose in the first place. Just go ahead and buy the 29W (or 61W or even 87W) and the USB-C-Lightning cable and be done with.

There are lots of 29w chargers on ebay much cheaper than the Apple one. My 29w charger is great for those times you are heading out and nee a quick boost to last you.
