Wondered if I could bounce a question off any of you guys/gals who may have picked up an Apple Watch Ultra 3?

I have used searched the net and used Google AI, but I still can't seem to figure out which faces on the Ultra 3 support an always on seconds hand?

I saw a list generated by Google, but when I went to our nearest Apple store a couple weeks back (and checked two different Ultra 3's and a Series 11) I could not see a ticking seconds hand on any of the Nike watchfaces and could not get one to show up on the Count Up face. The employees could not tell which faces were supported either, which I thought a bit sad.

Anyway, thought if I wait a couple weeks surely a definitive list of faces with this feature would surface, but I having some troubles finding such a list.

Any help is certainly appreciated!!

I believe there are multiple watch faces that have a second hand. I use the Infograph and shows a second hand. It also give you 8 complications!

Interesting question. I just checked all the faces I currently have set up and found the following:

Visible Second Hand/Indicator:
  • Waypoint
  • Modular Ultra
  • Meridian
  • Solar Analog
  • Exactograph
  • Infograph
  • Contour
  • Activity Digital
  • Typograph
  • Reflections
  • California
  • Flux
  • Wayfinder
  • Metropolitan

No Second Hand Visible:
  • World Time
  • Chronograph Pro
  • Count Up
  • Snoopy
  • Modular (digital seconds complication)
  • Solar Dial
  • Nike Compact
Hope this helps.

Edit: added a few more that I don't actually use; will try to check some more faces when I have time!

To add more clarity — I’m using an SE 3 and this could be different on the more premium Watch versions though I don’t believe so...

The seconds indicator disappears when the watch display goes into “always-on” mode. That is, the seconds hand vanishes or, for example, in the case of Flux, the color fades away (which is what indicates seconds) and only the outlined hours and minutes remain. OF course, that returns when you raise to wake or tap.

By the way:
Most images have an easily depicted seconds hand. Although, as already somewhat mentioned, some faces, such as Flux, require reading the description to understand the functionality:

This watch face combines typography with color and movement to show the passing time. Color fills the face from the bottom as seconds count up and the numerals snap into new forms when the minute changes.

P.S. Speaking of one of those not blatant features of a watch face, the seconds hand on Unity Lights can block the light from the minutes and hours hands.

Series 10, Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 have screen technology that shows some seconds hands / animations in always on mode. The SE3 and older watches don’t have this tech

I just haven’t seen any spec to denote such a difference.

And I’ve only owned Watch SE models. Therefore, I didn’t want to state with absolution/certainty.

It's there, it's just not stated overtly. It's because the LPTO3 displays on newer Watches can go down to a 1Hz refresh rate, reducing power consumption while enabling a refresh every second (to draw the seconds indicator). The SE3 (and Series 7-9 Watches, IIRC) don't have that ability. At least, that's what Apple said when they launched the Series 10 or whatever.
