That is a tough one. The Oakley bag is stylish but the STM bag looks more practical as it appears to offer more options.

While I was looking at commuter bags, I had considered ones meant for laptops, but was more concerned about room for other stuff as I don't usually bring a laptop to work -- so I went with a Chrome messenger bag (they're a bit pricey though, but might as well take a look to see what your options are: http://www.chromebagstore.com).

THAT BEING SAID, I thought these Belkin bags were pretty nice and well priced:

They're meant for 15.4", but if you don't mind some extra room, they'd work fine. But maybe a smaller, more form-fitting case might be more protective? Since the Air wouldn't move around as much?

Timbuk2 also makes some nice messenger bags/backpacks, though they do start a bit above your budget.

I think I'm gonna go for the STM one, hopefully the velcro won't be too loud

Yeah, I forgot how annoying velcro is, until I got this bag.

I feel bad for the people around me on the train when I open it. I'm sure a lot of people have "velcro-phobia"

When I was an undergrad I had an obnoxious Velcro bag. I eventually performed surgery on it to remove the Velcro and add snaps. I'm certain my classmates and professors were very happy with the switch.

I wish more of these bags were shown with a "model" (I see one of these does). I think some of the smaller vertical bags really run the risk of looking like a purse.
