So I was thinking about getting a second phone and saw the $49 3GS 8GB at the Apple and AT&T websites.
I want to unlock it but I am not sure which BaseBand it may have.
Does anyone know?

Thanks

It won't be unlockable. It will probably have 5.16.01 or 5.16.02

Whether the phone is new or refurbished, it'll always come with a newer iOS. You're not going to find a phone around with a 5.13 bb.

It will come with a baseband that can't be unlocked. Also keep in mind that the $49 is with a 2 year contract, so even if you unlock it you will still have to stay on AT&T for 2 years unless you buy out the contract.

Come on everyone, join the thread, you can never have too many people saying the same thing.

The new 3GS baseband will not be unlockable.

I'm going to disagree to an extent as I'm not sure which baseband is on the phone. I bought my wife one of the $49 3GS from local AT&T store about a month ago and it actually came with 4.1 on it. I didn't even bother checking the baseband as I'd just signed a new 2 year contract with Att to get the phone for $49 so the need to unlock it was irrelevant! When I plugged it into TU it did have blobs for various firmwares so I was happy about that, but I was somewhat upset as I thought I was buying a new iPhone 3GS. If I had to guess it was just luck of the draw and slipped through the cracks to have 4.1 on it.

The 4.1 firmwares baseband cannot be unlocked either.
And with shsh blobs you can downgrade the firmware but not the baseband.

Sorry, I got off-track there. I guess my point was that it doesn't necessarily come with latest firmware. But you are right, called my wife and it's 5.14.02 so no go there!

Still old baseband/bootrom listed on ebay all the time. Not really hard to find, i just sold mine.
