which bootcamp/10.x version for windows 7

I currently have 2008 iMac with XP on Bootcamp 2.2

Before moving to Windows 7, shall I upgrade the Leopard 10.5 to Snow Leopart 10.6 (to use bootcamp 3.1) ?

any advise on the order of install regarding this matter would be appreciated.
