OS Neutral Which Call of Duty is best?

I picked up CoD 4 last week with the 30% discount in the App Store and it's a nice game. I'm now thinking of buying the more recent CoD game. Which of the Call of Duty games is the best? Or should I just stick with CoD 4?
 
Depends if you are playing multiplayer or not. If not, i think CoD 1 & 2 were pretty great, my favourites at least. CoD 4 was pretty cool too. I personally did not like "World at War" but is just a matter of personal preference.

If you are into multiplayer, then you should consider the latest, CoD Ghosts i think it is called.
 
It peaked at Call of Duty 4. Every single one after that has just gotten worse and now we've hit the gargabe that is COD:Ghosts. But COD4 was somewhat profound and definatly original for its time.
 
Black Ops and Black Ops 2 were pretty decent, but the original Modern Warfare is still the best, IMO.
 
COD4 and Modern Warfare 2 are the best because the original InfinityWard Team now (Respawn) made these games.

Everything else is repetitive, flawed with imbalance.

At the very least play the entire COD4 single player campaign.

It still holds up against everything today with epic moments and well done story line.

They are all bad. Small maps, annoying kill streaks, arcade knifing, lag, campers, kids, hackers, linear campaigns, annoying music, quick scoping, auto aim, killcam, cheesy zombies.

i think the first three CODs ( classic world war games ) where amazing cod 4 was a good game , world at war and black ops were also good but after that , MW2 and 3 and bo2 ... i hate them
