I'm considering switching from AW4 to AW7 but I find it annoying that the latter requires USB-C.

Currently I have a neat 2-in-1 charing pad with a hole for the original AW charger (with its cable folded nicely within the charging pad, see attached pic below), so the whole thing only takes up one USB-A port in my wall charger, while being able to charge both my AW and iPhone.

Now with the USB-C charger that comes with AW7 it looks like I'd have to buy a new wall charger with both USB-C and USB-A if I wanted to charge both the watch and iPhone....and would no longer be able to use the current 2-in-1 charging pad anyway! (Btw, I'll be selling my AW4, so I wouldn't be able to continue using its cable for that matter).

Are there any USB-C alternatives of such 2-in-1 charging pad that I could use? I really like only this kind of charging pad, and not those that "protrude" upwards at 90-degrees to charge AW and whatnot. If not, what do you suggest? To buy a USB-C & USB-A wall charger? Btw, I don't really need the fast charge for my watch... or should I just buy another USB-A charger for AW...and continue using it with AW7 at slower charging speed?

Your current charger should still work…. Albeit at a slower charge rate.
I still use my old chargers with both my series 7 & 4 watches.
Yes, tho since I’ll be selling my AW4 I’d need to buy another “old” charger as stated in my above post…

How does the cord fit into your current charging pad? There's no room for a usb-c to usb-a adapter?

It fits just perfectly... maybe if that adapter were really tiny (like a few mm thick - think wireless mouse adapter) it could still work... but not sure if such tiny adapters are even possible to find.

That looks pretty tight!
Not sure it'll work, but I've seen some small adapters, such as this:

Thanks, that *might* work, though it would be really tight (if it actually fit inside the charging pad). The USB-C "dongle" (including the white plastic cap) on the AW7 charging cable seems to be slightly longer than that on the AW4 regular USB charging cable?

The length of the Apple Watch 7 USB-C cable with one of the small USB-C to USB-A adapters (link below) is 38 7/8 inches. This length does not include the round puck.

Edit: these particular adapters are not desinged to work with magsafe chargers.

By "round puck" you mean the actual watch charger itself?

Yes. By “round puck” - I mean the approximately 1” diameter aluminum and white plastic end of a Series 7 Apple Watch charging cable, that magnetically attaches to the back of the watch.

Sure, yeah that's what I meant by "actual charger", thanks. :)

Ok, I'll need to take the AW4 cable out of my wireless charging pad and measure its length to see how it compares to your measure of 38 7/8 inches for the AW7 cable with USB-A to USB-C adapter attached. If there's only a few mm difference then I may be able to fit the adapter into my charging pad still.

Looks like that won't work tho. I measured my AW4 cable and it measures around 97.5cm without the "puck", which would be about 38 3/8 inches compared to the USB-C cable charger you measured to be 38 7/8 inches (geez, how can you guys survive with imperial system, metric is just SO much more convenient), which is almost 1cm difference.. definitely wouldn't fit in the charging pad then, since there would also be a protruding adapter in there which adds another 0.5 cm or so (unless your measurement was just approximate).

FWIW The 38 7/8 inches includes the metal part of the USB-A adapter that would insert into your charging stand. BUT>>> the bigger question is whether these very small USBC->USBA adapters will work with the AW7 charging cable with or without your charging pad.

Yes, my measurement included the metal part too…

So I bought a used AW5 charger to fit into the above charging pad. Turns out the cable was just about 1 inch too short, so it didn't fit in there. I then used my former AW4 charing cable, which fit in nicely.

HOWEVER, the problem that I'm noticing now is that it just won't charge my AW7 & XS at the same time, even though the charging pad is plugged into a 12W wall charger. Well, it will charge my XS but AW7 charge cycle will keep getting interrupted intermittently, or there will be periods when it's not charging at all when both devices are on the pad.

With AW4 it worked just fine, though! So what's up with this AW7 charging then? Does it have to do with its fast charging capabilities and consequently it would require an even stronger wall adapter to even charge both devices at the same time??

If you don‘t care about fast charging the Watch, just get a MagSafe Duo. Smallest footprint, brilliant for travel as well.

It crossed my mind, but I really don't wish to spend more than 50 EUR on a charger...
