Shopping for a computer in the UK with about £500 to spend. Generally do Photoshop, internet, word processing, video editing, and mid-level gaming. Have a large music collection, so need a big HD. Probably need a monitor, but have an older one if I cannot get a new one for that price. Which computer would you recommend? Also, might look into building a computer. With no previous experience, would this be a good idea, or a waste of time? If so, what all would I need and which kit do you recommend? Thanks.

Wanting a Mac, but need a PC - computer is for girlfriend's family

Looks like your only option (mac) is a mini.

Good machine and suitable for your requirements.

Not looking for a mac, as the family wants a PC. I considered recommending a mac mini and using parallels, but its feature set is extremely outdated and, frankly, not worth the price. You can get a very capable pc for the same investment. I always recommend Macs, but they simply do not want to spend the money that it would take to buy a decent one.

Go with Dell or an HP system from John Lewis if there is a local store. Other routes are more likely to cause you unneeded problems.

at dixons you have PC + screen + printer for £499
