Sales associates really shouldn't feign ignorance. What did you ask them exactly? If you ask if a certain specced model is in stock, they should be able to tell you.

i have seen 11 inch i7 2.0 8 gig of ram and 256 hd.

Here's the situation, I want to buy one with student discount and sales tax free. I'm passing through Portland on the way to Seattle so I'd like to pick one up at the Pioneer Place store in Portland. I don't want the crazy priced 512gb option so what I'm hearing is the i8/8gb/256gb is 'ultimate 11' sold in the stores. I've called my local stores and the Portland area stores and they claim they only have the 2 stock configurations. I heard the same BS before when I got my MBA 13 Ultimate in 2011 and in 2010 (yes I'm sick lol)

Our local Apple store does stock the 11" i7/8/256. Maybe call the store and ask specifically for that model or order online with in-store pick up.

most apple stores will stock the "upgraded" 11" model, i7/8GB/256GB. Not the ultimate 11", but a pretty darn 'upgraded' one.

I don't need 512GB for an 11 incher, but I go all out for a 17 incher on storage.

It depends on the store. In NYC, the stores generally have the i7/8GB/256 combo. I don't know if they have the 512GB or 128GB versions in stock. Some of the smaller suburban stores just have the stock configurations.
