I heard many good reviews about Crucial SSD external disk, so intend to get one, either a X10 Pro or X9 Pro. However my computer is fairly old, an iMac 2015 High Sierra, v10.13.6 and a MacAir 2014 Yosemite, v10.10.5. I suspect due to my old model, its no point buying the X10 Pro to fully utilise the speed that it can achieve. Correct me if am wrong. Then how about X9 Pro? Or both are not compatible at all.

Below are the specs. Tks for advise.

I looked at the Crucial pages for both of those drives.

I'm GUESSING that they're both USB drives (not "thunderbolt").

It looks like the X9 pro is USB3.1 gen2 and the X10 pro might be USB4.

OK, both the iMac and MacBook Air you have "max out" at USB3, I believe.
This means the higher specs of the X10 will do nothing for you, speed-wise.

However... the X9 looks fine, and the price is good.
It seems to be Crucial's competition against the Samsung t7 "shield" (which sells for a similar price).

If you get the x9 Pro, how about letting us know how it does?

AFAIK, any SSD will work with that machine, so long as it has the proper connection. Those drives have USB-C connectors. Your iMac only has USB-A and Thunderbolt 2, so you would need an adapter to connect, however, I don't believe there are any.
It would be nice to get a higher speed modern interface drive to "future-proof" it, however, unless you think you're replacing the iMac soon, I would suggest you get a USB-A connecting drive. There are also USB-C female to USB-A Male adapters which allow you to connect the USB-C drive to a USB-A port.
Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable than I will be able to solve your dilemma
Good luck

"however, I don't believe there are any."

Nope.
All the OP needs is a cable with a USBa connector on one end, and USBc on the other.
There are millions of them.

You are correct, however, I was referring to the Thunderbolt 2 connection. That said, there are bidirectional Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 connectors, but the Apple one costs $50! Plus he would need a gender changer at each end. That's why I went on to recommend the USB-A to USB-C later in the post
