I still use iMovie HD (iMovie 06 I think) for editing videos because it has the professional timeline setup.. it's kind of like a mini Final Cut Pro. I cannot for the life of me get around in the new iMovie.. is there any other app that Apple or someone else makes that is like the old iMovie? Does Final Cut Express offer that? I don't see why they had to go and ruin iMovie the way they did.

Anyways, any help would be appreciated. I know that at some point iMovie HD won't be supported anymore, so I figure it would be nice to find out where I can move to now.

iMovie11 has a timeline like iMovieHD. It also has the ability for multiple audio tracks rather than just the two that HD has, and full volume controls for each track. I stuck with HD through iMovie8 and 9, but now use iMovie11. Give it a try.
