Which DACs are compatible with USB 3 ports on iMacs?

I have a late 2012 iMac and I’m looking for a USB-connectable DAC/amp that will allow me to switch between active speakers and headphones. I realize that USB 3.0 is supposed to be backward compatible with USB 2 devices, but I have read that some DACs have a problem with USB 3 ports, resulting in clicking, crackling, and popping noises being generated.

Has anybody had any success with any dac plugged into the USB 3.0 port of a late 2012 or later iMac?
