New to MacRumors and dont see a "What should I buy section". I only see one for Macs. So I'll post it here.

Currently have an iMac (M4), I'm looking for a new and fun everyday device to interact with my main tasks such as..
- Email
- Web Browsing
- Forums
- Streaming Music
- Maybe starting a blog

I was thinking either -
- AVP with Magic Keyboard and Mouse
- iPad Pro M4 with Magic Keyboard for iPad and Magic Mouse
- Mac mini with Studio Display with Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse

Thoughts? Suggestions? Money is not an issue. Mainly in a fixed place, not really on the go that much. (As far as I know)

From what you wrote, the only one that makes sense is the AVP.

If you’re not going to be portable so why get a laptop and a mini with a studio display is just going to be the same thing but larger.

I’ll qualify this with I don’t have the AVP so it might not be good but that’s just my thoughts

Of your options, it'd be either the iPad Pro, or AVP as my choices. I dont have any experience with the AVP, but I imagine its different enough that one may consider learning/operating it fun, but that headset just isnt for me. The iPad Pro allows for portability if you need it, and if you go with the 11-inch, its a perfect e-reader device as well (just speaking of the form factor compared to the 13-inch)

You could do all of those tasks with any of the devices you mentioned. Do you want a device to also use in tablet mode or do you envision always leaving it docked on a keyboard case?

Since you’re mostly stationary, the Mac mini + Studio Display combo is a superb choice powerful, elegant, and perfect for daily tasks and blogging. The iPad Pro is fun but less practical if you're not mobile. AVP is niche cool tech, but overkill for your needs.

I found that once I had an iPad I was a lot less motivated to sit behind a desk, and instead found myself a comfy spot on the couch or lying on my bed. Now I spend most of my time on my iPad. So that gets my vote.

I’m the opposite. I only use my computer at a desk. Never on my lap. I don’t use my iPad very often. I do use my iPhone more than the iPad as I find it’s easier to type on.

honestly you can do all of that quite easily on your M4 iMac, but if you want something new because it’s fun, I’d say iPad Pro. Incredible device. The mini is great too but very nearly replicates your iMac. The AVP I’ve never tried so really can’t say, but many people who bought them now report that they sit unused because they’re not comfortable to wear for a long time.

This used to be my mode of working, before I retired. I’d sit at my desk to do specific tasks on my computer.

Now that I’ve retired, I get to surf the web, read and forum for hours, and for that I’ve found an iPad to be a more comfy device, for couch use.

I’m considering whether I should buy an M4 iPad of some flavour, now that my iPad (7th Gen) is out of updates…

What are you most comfortable doing? What are your personal needs and preferences?

After all, you are the person who will end up using this device, not anyone else.

Personally, I detest touch-screens, and, when I had an iPad (to serve much as some on this thread use it, as a supplement to, rather than a replacement for, a laptop computer), I have to say I loathed it.

In fact, seduced by the hype, at different times, - thinking (erroneously, that I had been too judgmental with my first iPad) I bought two iPads, and disliked using both. My two brothers were the beneficiaries, and they really liked the iPads, the ease of use and portability.

In my case, I like - love, need, - an actual keyboard, I love the tactile nature of a proper keyboard, and revel in the feel of key travel, I will always have some version of a MBA.
