I am afraid, this might not be the place to ask, but me being iphone programmer am asked a question that "web pages need to render content accorind to the devices they are hit from, for ex a different content for blackberry iphone and android". please refer to some other links before shouting :)

I meant that

is there a way I can program [or buy an existing program] where if i hit a page from the mobile device's browser, the web server should have a way to know that from which device the request as come, so that it can send appropriately akigned content to that device.

iphone supports ?

Exactly, does iphone support this standard ? I guess the info goes in http headers ? how to know which device supports and which is not ?

Yes, I'm not aware of any modern browsers that don't send a user agent. It is transmitted in the "User-Agent" HTTP header.
