I know there are multiple threads on docks, but I've had a look and apologies if the answer is out there.

I've got two Dell (U2723QE) monitors, and having just got a new 16" MacBook Pro, I'm looking at using the monitors for both the MBP and work laptop. I'm not sure what the work laptop is yet as it will be from a new job and I haven't started yet. Ideally, I would just like to have one cable, be it USB-C or Thunderbolt to plug into the laptops. I would also need gigabit ethernet, and while the monitors have an ethernet port, the hub would need to handle it. Changing via the cable for the monitors would be nice as well.

With a Windows device (work), I know I could use MST, but I understand that macOS doesn't support that.

What would be good docks to look at, and do I need Thunderbolt for the Mac, or will USB-C cover me for both?

Caldigit TS3+ has been awesome for my MBP 13", Studio Max base model and Dell Lattitude work computer to connect via single USB-C PD"computer" connection, driving multiple 4k displays (LG Ultrafine connected via USB-C and AOC 27" connected via Display Port on back of the CalDigit).

The newer TS4 model has been problematic for some from what I've read so you may want to steer clear of that one for now unless you want the latest and greatest.

I would pass on the Caldigit TB4 Dock as it is plagued with bugs. I would go with the OWC TB4 Dock. I have the Satechi TB4 Dock which is a sibling of the OWC TB4 Dock and it works great without a single glitch.
