I need some help on getting a DVD burner. I know the TDK externals work fine. Is there anything else out there?

Get a Pioneer DVR-106 from New Egg and mount it internally. You can't use iDVD with an external drive (unless you trust those Russian patches).

www.dealmac.com updates deals daily, and they have the lacie external drive listed for $219.00

The lacie drives do use pioneer, but they also use other's drive-mechanisms as well. They do provide a downloaded patch to provide burn support in OS X.

If you don't need it to be external, then you can buy a pioneer dvr-107 drive at www.esbuy.com for $103.00 with free shipping.

This drive is fully supported via 10.3.3 (internally), and is a great drive.
