Which Evernote version is lesser of evils, perhaps 3?

I am going to start using Evernote, but I remember reading something in the past about a revision of Evernote 3 being the lesser of the evils because of the crap added in 5. Evernote 3.3.0 Build 300201, http://mac.filehorse.com/download-evernote/2755/ , is what I'm leaning towards. Any advice?

I'm someone who would use an older version of something, if it's better, like Skype 2.8.0.866 and Skitch 1.0.12. I'm also not into the MAS.
