Hey Guys,

I have a 27" iMac with a 1TB hard drive, which I have unfortunately filled up!

I'd like some recommendations for a new hard drive.
I'm looking to spend between £100 and £150 which in dollars is $166 to $249

I want it to have as much space as possible, so 1TB, 2TB or 3TB.
As well as being really fast - so thunderbolt and/or USB3.

Also how much faster is thunderbolt? I've heard people saying it isn't actually that fast in practice if the actual hard drive isn't an SDD. I don't mind if its not portable.

I've done some research of my own and found things like this:

Many Thanks in advance,

FWIW I use a LaCie 2TB Porsche Design External HDD (£109.95) bought from the Apple Store in the UK.

Connects via USB3 (I also read about the HD imposing speed limitations on Thunderbolt so opted for the cheaper USB3), is virtually silent and just does what it is meant to. I only use it for Time Machine and so the 2TB will be enough for a while.

I stayed away from the G-Technology HDD on the Apple site after reading the reviews (noisy).
