Ive got a mid 2012 cMBP and want to connect to a Dell U2412m monitor.

I want it to be used as a dual screen setup for photo editing.

Whats the best connection for this?

Im a bit confused about the HDMI, DVI, Dual link DVI options.

And I presume a mini display port to (chosen connection method) cable is required?

Thanks

Mini-DP to DVI connected from your Thunderbolt port is the best option. According to my internet detective work that monitor runs at 1920x1200, which is the maximum resolution for single-link DVI. Anything bigger than that and you would need dual-link, but the adapter is significantly more expensive so you'd be fine with the cheaper one unless you think you might use a higher-resolution monitor in the future.

Ah, didn't see that it had native DP input. None of the Dell monitors we use at work have it, which is irksome.
