I have a macbook pro mid 2008 core 2 duo. I want to get an external hard drive, and am having trouble deciding between a usb2.0 and a SATA - my machine has a pciExpress slot, so I was thinking about getting a card with SATA ports.

My big question is, which will be faster fore real world transfer speeds?

usb 2.0 or the SATA?

Thanks guys!

Your machine has an express card port. It can accept a card in for eSATA.

eSATA is faster than USB, but they you will always have to have the card to transfer things.

Try firewire 800, no adaptor needed. If you are just backing up every now and then, USB should be fine.

will the card with esata be faster sustained speeds than firewire 800? I am looking for speed in transferring large files.
