So I have an iMac with Snow Leopard still (which I do not plan on changing) and my father who is sick just lent me his iMac. He is downloading Mountain Lion and said that it told him he would be asked for his Apple ID. I want to use the computer for messenger etc. but do not want to lose all of his iTunes settings and/or other settings. What I am wondering is which ID will I have to use to login to iCloud?? Mine or his? .....and installing Mountain Lion will not do a fresh install right? We do not want to lose his files.......Thanks!

Let me get this straight... It's your Dad's iMac, which you want to use?

Just set yourself up as a new user. Every user can have their own separate Apple ID.

Sorry for the confusion. Not the user. We are under the impression that you need to 'login' using Mountain Lion after the install. With an iCloud id...maybe so it knows who to iMessage etc.?

Nope. You can enter information when you first set it up, and it will pull the information from your Apple ID to register the computer, but each user will have it's own AppleID set. You can also just skip the Apple ID entry initially, anyways.
