Hi all
I am newbie as member here, however check the site daily
.
My challenge/decision to make:
- I have a Mac Mini (2009 2.0) in the living room currently linked to the plasma at front of room, and a 17" lcd at back
- Used for iPhotos, itunes, Plex 1.5 tb and growing ;-)
- A new MBP UB base 15" model.
I want to move the mini to the bedroom, so I can use plex, and looking to get a sling box (can't do wires through flat) and want it for sky etc in bedroom (andalso now iPhone
). Already have a 26" Acer tv/lcd in the bedroom (not great but for what I want is fine).
Ok, I have the opportunity to move to MBA from the MBP, I don't need major power portability wise, but a solid machine that I can use out and about is needed. I will wait on that until after June etc, just in case of a new version..
However, I want a Mac with power at home, I like to play with iPhoto, want to try Aperture, etc.. Have a PS3/Wii so games not an issue..
So my quandry, there is room at the back of my living room for an iMac or even the LED screen with possible the high spec mac mini... However graphics/power wise, there would be a difference. I already run a 10m DVI lead, from front of room to current 17" at back of room, so doubt much difference if I changed that to hdmi (using mini displayport to hdmi, etc).
So, what do you think all?
I keep playing with the spec of the 24", ideally the 20" would look better but concerned over the graphics card.
With the 0% offer, I could do the 2.99 GT 120 option, or at a real push the HD 4850, though doubt (unless someone says otherwise) that I need that power. The 4 gig should be fine for my needs, and will upgrade to 1 tb hd.
Questions though,
- if the iMac is left on as much as my mini is 99.9% of time, are there any issues with that? Or are they the same lastability wise?
- any issues with a 10m Tos cable? have seen them on line, but would it work as well as the 1m lead I currently use?
- or should I look to leave the Mac mini at front and opt for another mac mini for bedroom..
Sorry, know this is long, but would be grateful for everyones thoughts!
Cheers
Garry
