Which IOS minimum requirement AW Ultra?

I am about to trade back my Iphone 11 in order to get a reimbursed amount to pay off a monthly subscription for a AW Ultra with LTE, at my work.

The thing is i have a spare iphone 7 with IOS 15.XX.

Does the AW 8/Ultra require IOS 16 to connect to the Iphone? if not i will use the Iphone just for setup as i intend to run the ULtra in standalone mode 99% of the time and rely on the Iphone 7 for incremental Ultra updates and what not.

If you have a look in the small print on Apple’s site you’re out of luck:

“Apple Watch Ultra, Apple Watch Series 8, and Apple Watch SE require an iPhone 8 or later with iOS 16 or later.”

Ah too bad! thanks all, well in that case my wife`s iphone 12 pro or my sons iphone 8 plus will have to do then, i use a different LTE carier anyway on the Ultra then, but will going to need her phone from time to time for updates etc.

Too bad had hopes the iphone 7 could serve me haha. So weird though the Iphone 7 still feels so capable
