Hey guys,

So ever since updating to iOS 11 on my iPhone 6, it has been complete garbage. Apps take anywhere from 10-15 seconds to load, the phone shuts down with 20% battery left, and a plethora of other issues. This started the second I updated to iOS 11, and none of the updates help. I've fulled restored the phone with no success.

At this point, I'm thinking about spending $100 for a refurb iPhone from Apple. Would this likely come pre-loaded with iOS 10, or would I be stuck with iOS 11?

There’s no guarantee for the firmware on any iPhone coming from Apple. At this point it’s likely to have 11 installed. How are you getting a refurb for $100?

Just to clarify you would be getting an AppleCare+ replacement unit and technically not purchasing a refurbished iPhone 6. That's is what is priced at $99. Your AppleCare+ would not have a warranty beyond the AppleCare+ period. A refurbished iPhone 6 from Apple would have a warranty, new battery, and new case.

An Out of Warranty Service unit would be $299 again with no warranty beyond the AppleCare+ period.

According to the Apple site, it's $29 under Applecare+ vs $129 out of warranty: https://support.apple.com/iphone/repair/screen-damage

They still quoted me $99, fwiw.
Nope they are charging you correct. It is $99 for an AppleCare+ Incident. If it turns out that they only need to replace the Glass unit then it should be $29 once they take it apart and don't need a cable or sensor.

If you only had a cracked / broken glass then it would have been the $29 fee just to replace the glass screen. Your AppleCare+ coverage also includes two incidents of accidental damage with a service fee of $99.

Ii don't have Applecare on this. But anywho, if it's iOS 11 anyways, I guess my idea is moot.

Unfortunately there is no way to know if a replacement iPhone 6 from Apple is on iOS 10.3 or iOS 11 that just came out as of Sept. 19th. It really depends on the service unit inventory turn over at each specific Apple Store.

It appears they were offering you a discount on a replacement iPhone 6, maybe the Genius would offer to check to see if they can find an iPhone 6 replacement on iOS 10.3. It never hurts to ask.

I have an iPhone 6+ and no issues (like the ones you describe) with the latest iOS. I don't know if iOS would be to blame in your case either.

Well, it could be my hardware I suppose, which is why I'm open to paying money to swap the phone, though with the combination of my problems starting the second I updated and the plethora of similar complaints on the Apple Reddit group, I suspect it is iOS.
